Increasing the integrity and reduce the vulnerabilities and corruption risks in the food safety sector by developing ethics and integrity. Over a period of 12 months, anti-corruption support measures will be implemented with an impact on both the institutions under NAFS's subordination/coordination/sub-authority throughout the territory of the Central Region and the business environment.

Despite that most local public institutions have adopted Codes of Conduct or Ethics, including Codes of Conduct for Civil Servants, these remain mere statements of principles not applied in reality. This calls for comprehensive actions on preventing corruption in the local public administration by means of thorough checks by the competent institutions on incompatibility of functions, conflicts of interest, declaration of assets and income, as well as making the local public procurement system more efficient and increasing transparency, etc. The internal acts and regulations of local public administrations need to be reviewed and standardized with a view to introducing changes that would make it more difficult to commit violations and protect public property.

The connection between good governance and an independent and professional press is undeniable. Where the press executes its "mandate" as a watchdog, an institution that keeps an eye on the behaviour of the authorities, the quality of governance and the management of public goods, corruption hardly has a place there. A side-by-side reading of rankings such as Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index and Reporters Without Borders' Press Freedom Index shows a clear inverse correlation between press freedom and corruption. Other academic studies (Brunetti - Weder, 2003; Chowdury, 2004; Staning 2015) support the same correlation, exposing the factors that fuel this correlation.

Central Development Region (Calarasi, Criuleni, Dubasari, Hincesti, Ungheni, Telenesti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Rezina, Straseni, Soldanesti, Anenii Noi).

The target group of this project is officials (representatives of NAFS territorial structures, local public authorities), local elected representatives (local councillors), school and kindergarten administrators, economic operators (SMEs, producers of agricultural products, organisations representing them, social partners producers of agricultural products), consumers, etc.

Partners of the project are the media institutions with which we have formed a coalition.

In order to increase the impact and visibility, we formed a coalition for about three years with the involvement of "Media-Grup MERIDIAN" Civil Society Organisation (radio station "EcoFm", broadcasts on terrestrial frequencies in Stefan Voda, Anenii Noi, Singerei, Falesti and Ungheni districts), which will make six podcasts during the implementation of the project and the periodical publication
"Est-Curier" (broadcasted in Criuleni, Dubasari, Orhei and Balti districts) and the newspaper "EXPRESSUL" (edited by "Novaex" L.L. C, broadcasted in Ungheni Nisporeni, Calarasi districts) which will publish (print and online) the journalistic materials made by "Gazeta de Chisinau", P.P. I. team

"Gazeta de Chisinau" Private Periodical Institution

Publication of all journalistic materials by "Gazeta de Chisinau" P.P.I.  on the website https://gazetadechisinau.md/ and media institutions mentioned in the project:

- will draw the readers’ attention on the problem discussed, contributing thus to  awareness raising on the serious consequences corruption has in the sector concerned;

The implementation of the project will provide the possibility for "Gazeta de Chisinau" P.P.I. team to know in detail the problems in the field of corruption prevention in the food safety sector in the Central Development Region, which will be reflected in the journalistic materials. The public will certainly follow and share the information published on the websites of media institutions and their social media pages will give the possibility to cover a larger and diverse audience.
